Brenda Gittens, is one who have accepted God’s call to minister songs of life, love, peace, joy, praise, worship, deliverance, encouragement, healing and restoration, to people of all walks of life. Her singing and worship leading crosses cultural and denominational lines. In 1994, she began as a singer on the Worship Team at an Assemblies of God church, and became a Worship Leader in 1995. In 1999, she accepted a call directly from the Lord as “Worship Evangelist,” one who will go wherever the Lord sends and opens the door, to lead His people into powerful praise and far beyond that, into worship where there are no limits. Over the past ten years, Brenda has gone into various churches and ministries to minister in song and to lead Praise & Worship. She has also been a Worship Leader on staff at four churches, a student of the Worship Arts Conservatory, and have attended the International Worship Institute. In 2005, God moved her into prophetic word, song, and worship. To be promoted by the Lord, Brenda knows this. “You have to go through and endure something. It involves being broken and humbled, and you have to let Him bring you through it.” She began the weekly devotional, “Women Who Worship” in 2005 and in 2009 became a Guest Columnist for Streaming Faith, the world's largest online faith based broadcasting portal. One pastor recently spoke these words to describe her. “She’s one who’s been raised up not to perform, but to lead His people into His praise, into His worship, and to be an encouragement to us all, to build up His people.” Brenda is a member of Mount Calvary Baptist Church in Fairfield, CA, where her pastor is Dr. Claybon Lea, Jr.
Born in San Francisco and the youngest of five, song and drama was a part of her upbringing. For 30 years her mother wrote and directed various productions including, "Church On Trial" and "The Singing Cross” at San Francisco Christian Center, the church where Brenda was born and raised. Her gift, talent, and love for singing was discovered there. The pastor, Bishop Donald E. Green, is her spiritual Dad in the ministry today. She is definitely a product of the scripture, “Train up a child in the way they should go, and when they are older, they will not depart from it.” Brenda also knows first hand that just because you grow up in the church, you are not exempt from any negative experiences of life. “I thought just because I knew about the Lord and grew up in church, I could continue to live the way that I wanted to. I thought I was safe from everything.” She had to come to the place in her life, where she totally surrendered all to Jesus Christ. Since that day, now as a Worship Leader, Psalmist, and a writer of devotionals and songs, this is exactly what God has called her to do and she has a passion for it. “My heart and life is totally dedicated to the Lord. I can truly say that I know Him through relationship, not just about Him. He mended my life and restored many things back to me. Through Him and with His anointing, the song comes from my heart with such joy! The song is real. I want to let others know that God can take the impossible and make it possible. He can bring hope to any hopeless situation. What He’s done for me, He can do for you.”
Brenda has been blessed to share her ministry at churches, conferences, prisons, community events, and outreaches around the Bay Area throughout California, and some parts of the United States. She was a regular musical guest on “Coast To Coast,” which was aired in California and some of the western states, and was also a member of the telecast's musical group, "The Friday Night Singers." God has opened some doors for Brenda that she will never forget. One was when she was asked to sing the song "Designer's Original" and the special guest was the late Danniebelle Hall, the writer of the song. "As a young girl, I would hold a hairbrush in my hand as my "microphone" to sing along with her songs. As a grown woman, I will never forget the tears that came from Danniebelle's eyes and mine on that day, as I sang her song." In 1998, Brenda was one of the winners in the National Talent Vocal Competition at the GMA Christian Artists Music Seminar in the Rockies, and a semi-finalist in Exalting Him! 2005, sponsored by Daywind Music Group and Trinity Broadcasting Network. She has sung on various recordings and has recorded her own single, "I Come Before Your Throne." Brenda resides in Northern California with her husband and son, who both support her faithfully in ministry.
